Let me preface this article by being entirely open and honest.

I am not an MLM “Golden Boy”. I’m not a network marketing “Superstar”.

At least not yet. ;-)

I am in the process of building a network marketing business and I believe that in the next 1-3 years, I’ll never have to worry about money again.

This is not to say I’ll drive a new Jaguar every year or that a Hollywood producer will want to use my dream mansion to film movies. I DO believe I’ll have more than enough to pay my bills, enjoy my life, friends, and hobbies, and I’ll be able to pay for three teenagers college tuition.

One of the things that turns lots of people off about network marketing is that so many sponsors make it sound like a GRQ, a Get Rich Quick opportunity. The truth of the matter is that NOT EVERYONE ASPIRES TO BEING RICH. Why don’t more people understand that? (Don’t get me wrong. I LIKE material goods. I LIKE “toys”. But being rich in and of itself isn’t the most important thing to me.).

I believe that most people who want to enjoy a healthy residual income from MLM are far less money motivated than is commonly thought. It would be wise for those who are serious about building an MLM business to consider the possibility that

…most people are content to make an extra $1,000-$5,000 per month because they can’t imagine making $10,000 to $50,000 per month.

…most folks immediately dismiss salesmen and hucksters who promise the world. They’re don’t LIKE people who are willing to climb and claw their way to the top, regardless of the cost.

…even though America was built by small businesses, they need time to think of themselves as business owners. 78% of all MLMers have always been employees and the responsibilities of owning a business can seem intimidating.

I recently attended an opportunity meeting that made me cringe. It was truly a nightmare of lies. The presenter was a lying idiot who was hell-bent on convincing the prospects they could easily make $60,000 per month in his company. (this dude has never made over $600 per MONTH in MLM!) He did everything his sponsor told hm to do–draw circles, smile real big, use all the right words–and some of these poor folks ready to sign up. The rest of them were wondering where the bathroom was and who was going to win America’s Got Talent.

I didn’t stay around ’til the end because the outcome was predictable. 90% of the audience would go home, eat dinner, and talk about the B.S. Artist they’d been subject to by their friend. 10% of them would sign up on the spot. Of that 10%, 90% will be out of the business within 6 months. It happens every night of the week, all over America.

Wouldn’t it be refreshing to hear someone tell the TRUTH at opportunity meetings? Wouldn’t it be great to hear someone say,

“you’re not going to make much money for three to six months. whatever money you make, you’re going to reinvest back into your business. It will be work hard and you’ll have to do things that are outside of your comfort zone. You can take it at your own pace and I’ll be here help you whenever you need me. If you follow my proven plan, you can create a full-time income in six to eighteen months and you won’t have to worry about money again.”

That’s what I’d tell you if you were interested in my business-building system.

Like any other business, success in MLM isn’t easy. If it was, everyone would do it.

A drawback of MLM businesses is that they cost very little to join. Once you’ve heard the extravagant claims of so-called top earners, you might be tempted to gamble a few bucks to “see if it works out. My advice is…DON’T. Send the money to Haiti or give it to your church instead. Find out what you’re getting into BEFORE you sign on the dotted line. You’ll be doing yourself–and your sponsor–a favor.

MLM is one of the few ways “average” people can become financially independent, but it’s not without it’s risks. You could invest months or years of your time, only to find out that your company has filed for bankruptcy. Choose wisely. Do your research. If you’re new to sales or recruiting, make sure the company has some system in place to help you master the required skills. You shouldn’t have to reinvent the wheel!

I received a troubling phone call not too long ago from a new coaching client. She is new to MLM and so was having the most common struggle – how to generate leads. She reached out to me for help.

This newbie had hit that very common point in her new MLM business that happens when we begin in this industry with no training in marketing whatsoever. The point where you’ve completely run out of friends and family to pitch your opportunity to and you’re in the NFL Club. NFL means No Friends Left. They run screaming when they see you coming.

What is she to do now? Where on earth will she find new MLM leads?

Here’s where the disturbing part comes in. I had begun to give this newbie some ideas, strategies and tools to create her own free leads by leveraging the internet when she told me this.

I asked her what kind of training her upline was giving her. What did they tell her to do to get leads? She took a big sigh of frustration and told me that she was unhappy with her upline. They weren’t doing what they’d promised to do.

What, pray tell, was that? I wondered.

This nave newbie was promised by her upline that if she join this business at the “premier” level (read: most costly), then they would add a load of new distributors beneath her in her downline. Easy as pie.

It makes me nuts when I hear stuff like this. Unfortunately, there are some dodgy marketers out there, who, in the interest of increasing their own bottom line, will sign up any warm body and say what they have to get them in.

Here’s the point: there is no “get rich quick” scheme that actually works…in Network Marketing or anything else. This is a business. If you want to build a business, you must roll up your sleeves and put in some time and effort. Whether it’s a traditional brick-and-mortar business or an MLM business, it takes time to build.

Of course there are methods to cut that time down. If you learn how to leverage the internet to build you’re business online, you can move quicker. But if you don’t have the training to do that, you’re not going to get anywhere. If you have great marketing training, you can build an ENORMOUS business in Network Marketing – both online and offline. But you need to commit. You must regard it as a business and not as a hobby. A good thing to remember is: hobbies COST money. Businesses MAKE money.

The lesson here is this. If you are being told that someone else is willing to do all the work for you and you just have to sit back and collect the enormous checks, you’re being taken. If you’re told that all you have to do is sign up 2 or 3 reps and then just sit back and watch that matrix fill up, you’re being fooled.

Wake up and smell the cappuccino. Don’t allow yourself to be seduced into this kind of thinking.

Really serious Network Marketers know that they need to choose a company with proper training. Training beyond the “three-foot rule”. Before you join any MLM be sure that they have exceptional training – both for recruiting and marketing (offline and online).

More than anything, be sure that you have an honest upline. Be sure that they are giving you real info on what it takes to build in their company. A truly great upline will recruit you because they see the leader inside you waiting to get out – a leader they can turn into a producer. Not recruit you because you’re merely breathing and holding a credit card.

Trust your gut. So many wonderful opportunities exist in Network Marketing. So many ways to earn a six or seven figure income. Go out and get yourself a true mentor who can guide you to the prosperity you deserve!

Buying guaranteed sign ups for your MLM program looks pretty easy. You investigate sites that offer “guaranteed sign ups”, compare the cost for packs of guaranteed signups, and then make your purchase based on cost, right?

Regrettably, it is more complex than that. If this is the attitude you take to get MLM guaranteed signups, you will very likely be cheated by unscrupulous people who promote their phony MLM leads supply through promotion on Google or other search engine networks.

That is unfortunate, but there are many cheats and pretenders making up as MLM lead suppliers. Hence, you will have to check out for the following stuff when you invest in MLM guaranteed signups for your next downline-building promotion:

1. Where are the leads coming from and is there any way in which you can verify that? Several MLM lead providers will sell you leads from foreign countries if you don’t specify. This may mean none of the MLM guaranteed signups you are delivered speak English. This is definitely a big problem for a many of reasons. If you can’t be sure that they are from an English-speaking country, you may want to avoid using that provider.

2. Are the leads being uniquely directed to your program? Sometimes they are re-used without their knowing about it. This is commonplace and very annoying with MLM lead services: they will co-register the leads by pre-checking multiple boxes, which, if not checked off, will automatically add them to specific downlines. Undoubtedly, the quality of such leads can not be very good.

3. How are these leads recruited? You will undoubtedly want to know the answer to that question. If your leads are being collected through some sort of spam, you will be held accountable if any lead reports you to your MLM program. In the majority of these cases, the sponsoring account will be terminated.

4. How long has this site been around? — Is there anyone YOU know who can vouch for the quality of the leads? Again, MLM-related services seem to attract a lot of scammers. You may find that some supposed lead-generation businesses actually only rail your site with a robot to generate page views or image views. You may find that others will take your money and never return your emails. Do yourself a favor: don’t get into one of these situations. Do your due diligence before you make any purchase.

5. How long will it take to deliver said MLM leads? Some lead generation companies are very unspecific about this. In some cases, they will slowly drag it out over the course of several months and then stop responding to you altogether. Make sure you have a clear agreement for the delivery date.

While the vast majority of Internet-based service and product sellers are completely legitimate, there are a few specific industries that suffer from a considerable amount of spamming and scamming. MLM and MLM lead generation definitely suffer from this problem.

If you’re worried about purchasing your next batch of MLM leads for this reason, do not despair. Simply look out for the finds outlined above. And, no matter what you do or don’t do, make sure that you ask a friend who has used such a service before. Find out what actually works, not what testimonials say will work. In many cases, scam sites will fake testimonials, too.
