There has been no time in history when achieving success has been an easy thing. Today is no different. Yet different people understand different things when you say “success”. Arthur Ashe, who was a famous and success tennis player on the pro tour, once made the statement, “success is a journey and not a destination”. It is the journey along the road to success that is paramount and not the end result. The two components “perseverance and consistency” are essential in this process. There is no such thing as success without both.
Every person alive would relish the opportunity to realize this thing we call success. Many even want to achieve it with putting in the necessary time of being consistent and perseverant. But that can never happen. R.C Allen in his book, “The Secret of Success” says that the most average people would really like to know exactly what it takes to be successful. Many would even pay the price to achieve this thing called ‘success”. There really doesn’t need to be any mystery attached to it and it doesn’t have to be elusive.
The fist component that is necessary is to have a consistent action habit. This is a principle that deals with not only what you do but also what you say and what you think. There has to be a congruence in all three areas in order for success to be realized. If this is not the case, you will find that you will sabotage opportunities and success along the way.
Requirement number two is that success will never be achieved with a persistent character. This means that no matter what comes up in a person’s life, he/she will never quit or give up. It is important to keep on going to your ultimate goal regardless of what comes up or happens in your life. It can be accurately predicted that challenges are going to come whether or not you want them to. However, there can be nothing that is going to stop you from achieving your end result. You can never quit or give up. This is the type of quality that virtually every person will find admirable.
This quality really was exemplified by the Prime Minister of Britain during the Second World War. Winston Churchill actually said these words in a Convocation address, “Never, Never, Never Give Up”. It is this determined attitude and spirit that ultimately stood up against all odds and brought the British to victory during that war.
Ultimately this will exact a change in how you look at the situations that you encounter every day. You will have to become a positive thinker who sees opportunity and not obstacles. To maintain this mindset, begin to associate only with people who see the positive just like you. Avoid the ones who find everything wrong with life. This will help you in your consistency and perseverance.
You will then become someone who is not a victim but rather someone who takes responsibility for his/her life. This will bring you to a place of be empowered rather than disempowered. This will give you the assurance that you can change any situation no matter what many come your way. You will be able to make lemonade out of all the lemons that you are tossed. Perseverance and Consistency will give you the power into your own hands and this can become a new found strength.
