They enter industry with an employee mindset and with a limited skill-set. Both of these need to be overcome before they will realize significant, lasting success.

It’s important to be aware of the learning curve in this business. It’s also extremely important to educate new team members about that learning curve. Set their expectations correctly. Success in network marketing is a lot like knowing the combination to a lock. You may know a few of the numbers. You may even only be missing one of the numbers. But without all of the numbers, you cannot open that lock. There are ample stories of leaders in this industry that struggled and struggled without any significant results. That is, until they made a few key distinctions and success came to them so quickly and so easily it almost didn’t seem real. But it took time. And it took enduring some trials. And it required patience and perseverance.

You must recognize that in order to get there, we all have to go through a process of evolution. Each one of us is at a different places on the that learning curve. We have different lessons we must learn. But this is also a beautiful aspect of the network marketing industry. There is no better workshop for personal development. Our success demands growth. Out side of network marketing, you may be left to find your own way, but in this industry, you’re given an opportunity to mastermind with thousands of other like-minded people all with a passion for success and an understanding of the growth it requires.

I make no bones about it. I am in love with the network marketing industry. And one of the principle reasons why is our ability to earn a paycheck on our very first day in business. We earn while we learn. For those that enjoy success in our industry, the learning never stops, but with just a bit of coaching to get us headed in the right direction, we can begin generating cash flow right away. That is powerful. However, that income will only be realized if we have one thing right – mindset.

Regardless of what you call it – mindset, state, posture, attitude – if it’s not correct, you will not be successful with your home-based business. So, the first question is, what is the proper mindset? Well, the answer to that question will be somewhat personal to you, your values, and your goals. Those are questions that I cannot answer for you. For me, the proper mindset is to approach each action with confidence, passion, energy & enthusiasm, and a desire to serve others as a mentor and as someone with a solution that will empower them to fully realize their own contribution to the world.

You’re home-based business is a numbers game. I’m sure you’ve heard that many times before because it’s true. However, it is not only a game of sums. Certainly, if you share your network marketing opportunity with enough people, you will stumble upon somebody that sees it as a solution to their problems, regardless of how well you did in your presentation. But, there are so many people that have the same need, that are not satisfied with their current situation, that long for more out of life for themselves and their families, but that don’t recognize you as a source for their solution. It’s with those people that it becomes a game of percentages. Your ability to tap into and maintain and empower state of mind will enable you to instill confidence in those people and lead them toward the solution they need. Your results are a direct function of your behavior. The degree to which those behaviors move you closer toward or further away from your goals is directly linked to your mindset.

The two main elements to creating an empower mindset are your internal representations and your physiology. Basically, internal representations are the means through which you interpret your experience of the world around you. In Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), there is a phrase: “The map is not the territory.” While an accurate map can be a useful tool by helping you to navigate the territory, it is not really the territory itself. It is only one view of the world. Your perception of the world is similarly limited because it has been filtered through a lens consisting of your pre-conceived beliefs, values, attitudes, and ideas. Successful people have a consistent pattern of internal representation that empowers them and support their actions as they pursue their dreams.

The other factor in establishing an empower mindset is your physiology. Factors like posture, exercise, rest, nutrition, muscular tension, breathing patterns, and biochemistry all impact physiology tremendously. In turn, this directly influences your interpretation of the the world around you.

There is no such thing as a mind-body dichotomy. Your internal representations and your physiology are constantly reacting to and influencing one another. Together, these create your state of mind and determine the quality of your behavior. People that are consistently successful have mastered the art of strategically creating their internal representations and maximizing their physiology to tap into their most resourceful state.

Study successful people throughout the network marketing industry. Whenever possible, interview successful home-based business owners. How do they represent the world to themselves differently than less successful entrepreneurs? How do they carry themselves? How important is their health to them? Do they eat properly and get enough rest? Do they exercise? What other habits do they feel contribute to their ability to create and maintain an empower state of mind. Become a student of this.

Meanwhile back at the farm, the man who had bought the farm happened to be crossing the small stream on the property. Suddenly there was a bright flash of blue and red light from the stream’s bottom. He bent down, picked up the stone it was a good sized stone and admiring it later put it on his fireplace mantel as an interesting curiosity.

Several weeks later a visitor to his home picked up the stone, looked closely at it and nearly fainted. He asked the farmer if he knew what he had found? When the farmer said no, he had thought it might be a crystal the visitor told him he had found one of the largest diamonds ever discovered.

Understanding that the visitor had identified a rough diamond, the farmer went on to say that his small stream was full of the stones, none as big but they were plenty more. So even though the original farmer had sold this farm to seek his fortune elsewhere he had in fact been sitting on Africa’s largest producing diamond mine all along.

The moral of the story is that if the first farmer had taken the time to learn what diamonds looked like in their rough state he would have realised that what he was looking for was right under his nose all the time.

It is all too easy to think the grass is greener when you see people having success with apparent ease and you are tempted by what business they have joined or what they are doing that you are not. In essence you are probably standing in the middle of your own Acre of Diamonds it is just you do not see it that way right now.

The solution is very rarely the perfect business, the right mentor, the right compensation plan more often than not the answer lies within you but only if you are prepared to see your business from a fresh perspective.

‘The Sad…and Harsh Reality’

Yesterday a friend of mine, Misty, was a victim of domestic violence and was violently murdered by her fiance. I live in a bubble where things like that don’t happen. Domestic violence? It wasn’t anything that was expected. No one really knew what was going on behind closed doors. As her friends and family start to cope with Misty’s loss, I think we are all taking stock in our own lives.
