If you were a General in the Army, would you send your troops into battle with no bullets? Of course not.
But that’s exactly what we do when we sponsor someone into our MLM with providing them with meaningful training.
There are many examples throughout history of men (and even women!) who picked up clubs and axes as weapons to fight for a cause they believed in. They had no training and no real weapons, but they believed in a cause.
Even the victors of those battles returned home damaged by scars that never healed.
New distributors are like that sometimes, too.
There’s always a rush of excitement when they sign up because they have a new vision of what their life can be like–lots of free time, plenty of money, no stress. But then they start to experience rejection by their friends and family who tell them they’re crazy for wasting their time and they start to forget their vision o a better future.
When warriors are trained to expect attacks, they can steel themselves for the worst.
Veterans and rookies should spend time together. The veteran has a perspective that can save the rookie’s life. While the rookie may think that battle is glorious, the veteran can dispel those notions by telling him what it’s really like and offering tips on how to survive the stress.
If a new recruit knows what’s likely to happen when he shares his business opportunity with others, he’ll be able to withstand rejection. It won’t come as a surprise and it won’t take the wind out of his sails.
The system of the armed forces allows for new soldiers to get thorough training before they ever see combat. they are trained physically, mentally, and emotionally over several months in boot camp so they can withstand the rigors of service.
It would be great if new distributors could go away for a few weeks to be trained by MLM professionals who have built large, successful organizations. Unfortunately, that isn’t available. Still, we owe our new people the best training we can offer. Her’s a few ideas.
* Let them know that they’ll be rejected and ridiculed. Prepare them for the “real world”. * Teach them a few simple techniques for handling the most common objections. * Provide a reading list of good MLM books to read, so they have something to refer to when they get “stuck”. * Do three-way calls with them until they can do it for themselves and ultimately, for others. * Speak with them and praise them frequently. Let them vent. Help them work through rejection and let them know that’s the price we all pay to achieve our goals.
We all learn that doing battle with the status quo takes courage and vision. If you arm your people with tools and techniques to fight that war, they stand a much better chance of winning.
